How to Get Involved with Open Doors
There are three ways that an interested person could be involved in the Open Doors program.
- Volunteer to become a member of the South East Regional Adult Learning Board
- Volunteer to assist students needing extra help
- Make a donation to SERALB—a registered charitable organization. A receipt will be given for all amounts over $10.
Join the Board
The Nominating Committee is always looking for people interested in literacy and adult learning to be involved as Board members. Board members may be appointed at any time during the year and then ratified at the Annual General Meeting in September. If you have experience in the adult education field or if the reports of the low levels of literacy in New Brunswick concern you then you may be the board member we are seeking. If you wish to assist the South East Regional Adult Learning Board by volunteering to be on the board please contact the Chair of the Nominating Committee by sending an e-mail to email@example.com or calling 506-857-9912. There is no remuneration for board members.
The committees of the board, Finance, Human Resources, and Communications/Marketing may be able to use your talents if you have experience in any of these fields. Committees meet when necessary and may have frequent meetings when a project is undertaken. Contact can be made by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 506-857-9912.
Volunteers may be involved in assisting students under the supervision of the classroom teacher. There will be no preparation needed for this classroom help but an interest in adult education would be an asset. Retired teachers are welcome. Not all classes need volunteers.
