|Second Place: 2016 GMLAB New Writers Contest, Beechwood Open Doors (Teacher—Sandra Doucette)|
Marla is a participant in the Beechwood Open Doors Program. Even at 54, she is looking forward to completing her GED to move towards her goal of continuing her education at NBCC in Office Administration. She returned to her home in New Brunswick after spending 30 years in Ontario. She felt compelled to return in order to support her loving parents in their later years. She has written many stories and poems during her lifetime. She has traveled the world and enjoys writing about her experiences. She courageously manages mental illness and a physical disability while accomplishing her goals for the future.
Her poem Autumn Memories is attributed to a very dear friend who helped her learn to enjoy nature again after being injured and consequently disabled from an assault.
Marla never gives up on life long learning. Her experiences have proven it’s never too late to accomplish the goals you set for oneself.
It’s never to late to write, learn and yes, even win!
